When young Yankee Irving is accused of stealing Babe Ruth's bat during the 1932 World Series, his father, who is a Yankee Stadium janitor, loses his job. But young Yankee knows he didn't steal it, but rather Lefty Maginnis (William H. Macy), the cheating Chicago Cubs pitcher. With the help of his talking baseball (Rob Reiner), which he discovered in the sandlot, Yankee sets out to make things right by retrieving the bat from Maginnis. What ensues is a wild ride for Yankee as he meets both new friends and struggles to overcome Lefty to return Darlin' (Whoopi Goldberg) to her rightful owner in time to save the Yankees' hopes of winning the Series.
